To continue this trend, the Department is especially seeking candidates with technology/data management expertise, social media experience, the ability to speak multiple languages, military experience and college credits/college degrees.

 

People interested in Cincinnati Police Department Recruitment must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment (upon completion of the 28-week training academy), have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and be eligible to work in the United States with a valid driver’s license.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary for a Police Recruit is $38,353.13. Upon successful completion of the Police Academy curriculum and graduation from the Police Academy, a Police Recruit will be promoted to Police Officer. A Police Officer’s salary is $65,867.12 to $80,355.96

Veterans

The Cincinnati Police Department welcomes military veterans looking for a rewarding and exciting career in law enforcement. The Department has been nationally recognized as a top employer of veterans, and nearly 30 percent of the current officers are either active or former military members.

 

A qualified veteran, upon presentation of an official document stating an honorable discharge, shall receive an additional credit of five points. A qualified disabled veteran, upon presentation of a certificate of honorable discharge and an official statement dated within the last six months from the Veteran’s Administration or the Service agency attesting to the existence of a 10 percent or greater service-connected disability shall receive an additional credit of ten points.

 

Previous Ohio Public Employment

Employees who have been previously employed by either the City of Cincinnati or another Ohio public employer may transfer unused sick leave credit to their city sick leave balance.

 

Ohio Police and Fire Purchase Credit

Subject to certain restrictions, Ohio Police and Fire may purchase credits for full-time service rendered under any Ohio retirement systems – City of Cincinnati, Ohio Public Employees, Ohio School Employees, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio State Teachers.

Cincinnati Police Recruiting Process

Physical Agility Test (PAT) | 1 month

Registration will close October 31, 2021, after all interested applicants have registered to take the test. Applicants will then receive an email to select a day and time to take the Physical Agility Test (PAT) as well as the written test. Both test are scheduled between November 30 and December 4, 2021. Applicants MUST first pass the PAT in order to sit for the written exam.
