ClassicVibes 1480CIN is a Black-owned radio station that was built around the concept of establishing itself as a musical museum of R&B history in general and contributions of Cincinnati in particular. The radio station honors the legacy of WCIN in Cincinnati, the second oldest R&B radio station in the country. ClassicVibes 1480CIN, founded by the late Everett The Cork Thompson, an African American online radio personality, recreates the connection between a community and its voice.
The Kennedy Heights resident was the keeper of the flame for WCIN-AM, where he worked many years, and organized staff reunions after the station changed to Oldies WDJO-AM (1480). He revived the R&B sound of old WCIN-AM with his Classic Vibes 1480CIN online radio station.
The Black-owned radio station features classic R&B music, sports, informative talk shows, programs that give hope to the community, and features for veterans and other groups in need of guidance.
ClassicVibes 1480CIN, is a “Station Spin-off” of the First Black Station that was started in Cincinnati, Ohio. and did its first broadcast in 1953, the station has proven itself to be an integral part of the Greater Cincinnati metro community and the national music industry. The original 1480 WCIN introduced people to music greats like Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, James Brown and Aretha Franklin. WCIN set the important precedents that have made radio a viable part of the music industry.
The goal of ClassicVibes1480CIN, the Black-owned radio station, is to remind the community of its rich musical heritage as well as it’s phenomenal contributions that are too often overlooked. The community is in dire need of an informational and culturally inspiring radio station. With the impact of the Internet and other social media outlets, the influence can be much more far-reaching than in the past.
Since his unexpected death in 2017, Everett’s family has raised money and continued his station to honor his legacy.
