Phones Down, Books Up! is a Black-owned online clothing and accessories brand that focuses on increasing literacy rates for children by helping them to understand the importance of putting down their phones. Phones Down, Books Up! offers t-shirts, hoodies, and backpacks for both children and adults.
Phones Down, Books Up! wants to help grow children’s interest in books at a young age. The soft and high-quality clothing and accessories designs can help encourage better education and preparation for children. This movement can change the community by inspiring, educating, and creating the next generation of leaders.
How It Started
This movement began as owner Tracy Pugh and her grandson Trae were reading a book for school. Trae noticed Tracy’s phone and said, “NaNa, phones down, books up!” The next day it occurred to Tracy what an encouraging, motivational message this would be for children.
Phones have become one of the most significant parts of life. However, there is a time and a place for them to be utilized. When it comes to children’s education, they should be aware of the importance of putting down their phones and focusing more on their books.
Where It’s Going
In the future, Phones Down, Books Up! plans to offer children educational activities in the classrooms and the communities.
Grab a T-shirt and a book bag and help Phones Down, Book Up! get into the schools and the communities. Reading can be both valuable and fun. This incredible movement can unite people in recognizing the importance of learning and reading.
