About the Business and Owner
The original Richie’s Chicken was founded in 1986 in Frankfort by Richard “Richie” Bhoolai and quickly became known for exceptional fried chicken served in a fast-food setting. From the beginning, Richie’s Chicken operated as a family-run business. Danielle Bhoolai was raised within the operation, beginning work at an early age by filling hot sauce cups and later managing the register as a child.
In 2015, Danielle Bhoolai formally joined the family business by opening a Colerain, Ohio, location alongside husband Jelani. Building on decades of tradition, Danielle Bhoolai and Jelani expanded the brand in 2022 with the launch of Richie’s Chicken and Soul. This daughter brand was created with a vision centered on infusing the dining experience with deeper hospitality, strong community values, and compassionate leadership, while preserving the fried chicken legacy that made Richie’s Chicken a longtime favorite.
