Mommy and Me is a Black-owned nonprofit organization in Cincinnati. Founded by Erica Brown, Mommy and Me’s mission is to empower, support and uplift working single mothers. The 501(c)(3) organization aims to assist working single mothers above the at or above two hundred percent federal poverty level with child care assistance.

The focus for child care assistance was due to the struggles that single mothers face, having to pay for child care out-of-pocket. In today’s time, child care is more than twenty one percent of the annual salary for a single parent. This becomes one of the many challenges of being able to financially stay afloat. There are many resources available within the community for child care assistance. However, those resources are mainly available to a particular demographical and low-income families.

According to the federal poverty level guidelines, families at or above two hundred percent federal poverty level are considered able to handle these expenses. The truth in actuality is that a single parent annual income is not sufficient.

Services

Over the past few years, Mommy and Me has created amazing new programs. These single parent aid programs provide relief, lessen the need for government assistance, prevent families from falling into poverty and help reach permanent stability.

Helping Hands and Single Moms Succeed are two successful programs at the African American single parent nonprofit. The Helping Hands program is geared towards helping families with child care expenses, food, transportation, household necessities and more.

The Single Moms Succeed program tailers available resources to the specific needs of every family. Recipients can enroll in this program for three months, six months or twelve months. The services offered are child care expense assistance, school fees, food and nutrition, gas and transportation, household needs and rent and utilities. The Black-owned nonprofit is a charitable based organization. Therefore, resources are available depending on the donations and funding available.
