With preseason games beginning on August 9, the Cincinnati Bengals rookie lineup is gearing up to rebound from a disappointing 2017 season, where the Bengals finished at less than .500 (7-9). Since adding a few key players in the offseason, such as top Texas linebacker Malik Jefferson, they hope to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Many of the rookie players that are expected to make an impact for the Bengals on the field this season are African-American. These players hope to lead the Bengals to a winning season, and back to the playoffs.
Malik Jefferson the Bengals 78th overall pick from the 2018 NFL draft, has exciting speed and athletic potential. Jefferson’s senior year at the University of Texas was impressive, with 110 stops and 10 tackles-for-loss. He is from Mesquite, Texas. Follow him on Twitter @malikjefferson.
Miami, Florida native, RB Mark Walton was an unexpected pick for the Bengals, given that they already have a strong group of backs with high potential. Walton had a strong first four games in his final season at the University of Miami (Florida), but unfortunately suffered a season-ending ankle injury. After fully recovering, Walton is back and looking to prove himself as valuable. Follow him on Instagram @markwalton.
A standout late draft pick to watch is Auden Tate, who has been a top performer at Bengals training camp. He has a height advantage and the Bengals are working hard to develop his skills and make him an asset to QB Andy Dalton. Originally from Tamp, Florida, Tate attended Florida State. From Wichita, Kansas, Davontae Harris is a CB out of Illinois State with good size and toughness. He is able to accelerate rapidly and is a powerful force against the run. Follow him on Twiiter @the24elite.
Tickets for these games and more can be purchased online or by calling 513-621-8383. Discount tickets can also be found on Groupon. Check out the Bengals 2018-19 Season schedule and keep an eye out for these African-American rookies making an impact on the field.
