Smith & Hannon is Cincinnati’s only Black-owned bookstore.
After being in Cincinnati’s National Underground Railroad Freedom Center for several years, black-owned bookstore Smith & Hannon has relocated to OTR.
Smith & Hannon houses an extensive collection of non-fiction and fiction titles in various genres, including autobiographies, biographies, poetry, religion & spirituality, children & young adult, and more.
Initially founded in 2001 in Bond Hill, Smith & Hannon’s owner, and educator of thirty-four years, Joyce Smith, envisioned a place where the African American community could gather and embrace African American literature and authors.
“I really like the idea of being in Over-the-Rhine,” Smith said in a news release. “It’s an extremely popular walking community. I feel I might be able to make an impact in the area.”
