About Bob James

Bob James is an American jazz keyboardist, arranger, and record producer. His music has captivated audiences worldwide since his first days in Marshall, Missouri. Among his most well-known recordings are “Nautilus,” “Westchester Lady,” “Tappan Zee,” and his version of “Take Me to The Mardi Gras.”

Bob James founded the band Fourplay and wrote “Angela,” the theme song for the TV show Taxi. Music from his first seven albums has often been sampled and believed to have contributed to the formation of hip-hop. Two of James’ songs – “Nautilus” from 1974’s One and “Take Me to the Mardi Gras” from 1975’s Two – are among the most sampled in hip-hop history.
