Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith presents the Castor and Patience Opera
The world premiere opera of Castor and Patience centers on two members of an African American family who find themselves at odds over the fate of a historic parcel of land they have inherited in the American South. It is not just the story of a single-family or even any particular geography, it also addresses America’s warring tensions between reckoning with the hard facts of history and racing blindly toward the dream of progress.

The School for Creative and Performing Arts is a K-12 Cincinnati Public School offering world-class pre-professional arts training and advanced college preparatory academics. Artistic Departments include Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Instrumental Music, Technical Theater, Visual Arts, and Vocal Music. Furthermore, approximately 1500 students attend SCPA, in the new Erich Kunzel Center for Arts and Education in downtown Cincinnati.
