it’s not a trip it’s a journey will be at the Know Theatre from September 23 through October 9.

Get in the car with your four Black best friends – we’re about to change our lives. June, Frankie, Rain, and Willie embarked on a cross-country journey. The journey tests their identities and strengthens their bond as they explore being Black, femme, and American. Along the way, they wonder who “quintessential Americana” is really for and who’s been left out of the American Dream.

About the Creative Team:

For a new show about travel, America, and the interdependence of our lives, there’s nobody better than local theatre legend Daryl Harris to helm this production. Daryl is a bedrock of the Cincinnati art scene, as he is a 50-year veteran of traditional, experimental, educational, and applied theatre throughout North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, and a Full Professor at North Kentucky University’s School of The Arts, Theatre and Dance Program.

Daryl has lined up some all-stars to help the cast dive into the rich emotional lives of these characters. Local actor/director/playwright/intimacy professional Torie Wiggins will be the intimacy director of it’s not a trip it’s a journey. In contrast, Kim Popa, the co-founder and executive director of Pones, Inc., serves as the production’s choreographer.

About Know Theatre:

Know Theatre produces premiere, visually inventive works that expand the boundaries of what live theatre can be and do. They are committed to producing works that raise traditionally underrepresented voices on stages regionally and nationally.

Parking at Know Theatre:

The Gateway Garage, the Washington Park Garage, and more are available near the Know Theatre. Free parking is scattered about, but pay attention to signage regarding resident-only spots. Pay for street parking using the Cincy EZ Park App.

Pandemic Safety:

Please note that masks will be required for all audience members. Read more about health and safety policies.
