MORTAR helps unconventional entrepreneurs build businesses and transform their communities. We believe that any entrepreneur can thrive when equipped with the right resources and hustle.
Founded in May of 2014, MORTAR works to build communities through entrepreneurship by providing non-traditional, minority and women entrepreneurs with the tools and resources needed to start and/or sustain their own business.
We work to ensure that all entrepreneurs regardless of background, race, gender or socioeconomic status, are connected to the tools, resources, and support needed to grow their businesses and acquire wealth. MORTAR offers non-traditional entrepreneurs the opportunity to use their inherent talents to not only make a dollar but to positively participate in the economic rise of Cincinnati.
MORTAR is a critical piece of Cincinnati’s startup ecosystem, showing what is possible when entrepreneurs of all backgrounds are invited to participate in the economy. To date, MORTAR has successfully graduated 19 classes infusing the Cincinnati economy with more than 245 entrepreneurs.
Despite the barriers our graduates face, our culturally-competent MORTAR Entrepreneurship Academy has a 95% graduation rate. MORTAR chooses to meet our entrepreneurs where they are and speak in terms they understand. We also address the unique challenges that minority, low income, and women entrepreneurs face on their journey to business ownership.
After graduation, our entrepreneurs receive at least 18 months of dedicated alumni support services to help them navigate that most critical year in business that 20% of small businesses do not survive nationally. MORTAR also offers other post academy supports. It is our goal to serve 1000 entrepreneurs nationwide by 2021.
Come out, learn more, and join the MORTAR family!
