The Robert T Smith Jr. Inaugural Preachers Conference will grace the tristate at Corinthian Baptist Church on May 16-17, 2024, heralding togetherness and understanding through the calling of preaching and teaching. 

The Preachers Conference emerges as a beacon of hope, particularly in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky and Indiana area, where diversity thrives amidst a tapestry of cultures and beliefs. Dr. Smith’s roots run deep in this community, having served as pastor of Cincinnati’s New Mission Baptist Church for two decades, endearing himself to its people as a shepherd of compassion and empathy.

The narrative of the Preachers Conference is one of teaching, growth, learning, and the substance of prayer. The conference consists of lecture series, questions-and-answer segments, praise and worship, and teaching and preparation for preaching.

His illustrious career boasts engagements at over 135 institutions worldwide, igniting minds and hearts with his profound wisdom and compassion.

Among his myriad achievements, Dr. Smith’s role as the keynote speaker at the 22nd Baptist World Congress/Baptist Alliance in 2020 is a testament to his global impact. The Baptist Alliance represents a network of 51 million Baptists across 128 countries, and his words resonated with a universal message of unity and solidarity.

About Facilitators and Preachers

  • Dr. Tyshawn Gardner is a respected homiletician, author, and scholar of preaching. He is the author of Social Crisis Preaching: Biblical Preaching for Troubled Times, a preaching textbook written to help preachers leverage the power of the Written Word against the severe social crises of our times. He teaches expository preaching, narrative exposition, preaching from the Old Testament, social crisis and prophetic preaching, and delivery methods. 
  • Dr. John F. Faison, Sr. heads Watson Grove Baptist Church (The Grove), a vibrant, multigenerational, multisite church in Nashville and Franklin, TN. He is a prominent speaker at national events such as the Hampton University Ministers Conference, Clinton Global Initiative, Samuel D. Proctor Conference, and NAACP Leadership 500.
  • Reverend Sheleta Fomby is a highly skilled teacher of the Gospel. She feels privileged to share and deliver the Gospel’s good news on national stages. In 2018, she made history as the first female senior pastor of Hemingway Memorial AME Church in District Heights, Maryland, and co-founded New Life Church in Laurel, Maryland.
  • Dr. Bruce F. Williams, Senior Pastor at Bates Memorial Baptist in Smokehouse, Kentucky, transformed the congregation from 100 to 5000 members, serving across 60 diverse areas in the poorest zip code of Kentucky.
  •  Dr. Marcus D. Cosby, Senior Pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in inner-city Houston, Texas, pastors an intentionally intergenerational congregation. Under his leadership, the church established the Wheeler Avenue Christian Academy and a transitional housing facility for homeless single mothers, extending its impact beyond the campus. Dr. Crosby’s dedication to quality preaching extends to equipping over 100 ministers for ministry.

  1. Wow! This is a big event for Cincinnati; Dr. Robert T. Smith Jr. is one of our own coming home. He was the pastor of the New Mission Missionary Baptist Church and a fantastic Community Servant and Pastor for twenty years. Robert Smith Jr. is a Christian preaching professor and holds the Charles T. Carter Baptist Chair of Divinity at Beeson Divinity School.
