About The Sankofa Experience
“The word Sankofa means ‘Go Back and Get It’ in the Twi tongue of the Akan Tribe of Ghana,” says Wright.
Sankofa will use audience participation drama, live performances and museum exhibits to explore and celebrate two watershed moments in African American arts and culture – the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s-1940s and the dawn of Hip Hop in 1970s-1990s. The past will unfold at People’s Liberty performance and exhibit space at the Globe Furniture building at 1805 Elm St. in Over The Rhine.
