About Tappestry Members
Tappestry members are Wendell Anderson, Sr., Jinnerva Shelery and David Hankerson out front, musicians Gideon “Guitar” Watson on lead guitar, Jonathan “Skillz” Cunningham on keyboards, Shawn “Bonzo” Wells on drums and James “JT” Thigpen on bass guitar, creating a sound that is magical.

Wendell E. Anderson, Sr. lead singer since 1989 of The Hues Corporation. Their biggest hit “Rock the Boat” is still played on the air and in movies all over the world. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, music provided him the opportunity to travel the world becoming an exceptional singer/songwriter. In 2010 Wendell began building the Natty Records Entertainment and Music Company signing to the Natty Records label iconic artists, The Hues Corporation. In late 2018 he selected the final artist for his new band, TAPPESTRY. Wendell is proving that your musical journey continues as long as you do.

Jinnerva Shelery known as the triple threat. Aka triple threat. She is currently also a member of The Hues Corporation. Jinnerva is an accomplished singer, dancer, and actress. She has starred in local renditions of “Black Nativity”, “One Hundred Divas”, and “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill”, a one-woman show. Jinnerva has been an entertainer for Carnival Cruise Lines.

David Hankerson found a love for music at a very young age. He is currently also a member of The Hues Corporation. David began playing the drums and singing in church. He later started singing and acting at Withrow High School under the late Mr. Woodson Conway as his vocal trainer. David plays drums, bass guitar, saxophone and piano. David played drums for Phil Brown & God’s Earth with Love, the late Grammy Award Winner, Dr. Charles Fold and The Charles Fold Singers and Bobby King and Combined Voices as well as many local churches.

Gideon “Guitar” Watson, a Cincinnati native that has been playing the guitar professionally for over 30 years. He has played at the Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. Gideon is the lead guitarist for the late Grammy Award Winner, Dr. Charles Fold and The Charles Fold Singers. He has also played for renowned gospel singers, The Late Rev. James Cleveland, Dr. Cheviene Jones, Dr. Mark Williams, Dr. Joe Pace, and Dottie Peoples. Gideon has played for many local groups over the past 30 years including the well-known gospel jazz band, The Muzic Company, that has opened up for Fantasia, The Whispers, Babyface, New Edition, just to name a few.

Jonathan “Skillz” Cunningham a talented musician and producer. He has played with The Ingrid Rachel Project and other groups in the area. He is currently also a member of Deuces Musik.

Shawn “Bonzo” Wells started playing drums at the ripe old age of 4. He joined the Kelly Richey Band (Sweet Lucy Records) in Lexington KY, a blues trio touring internationally. Shawn played on the first two CD’s “Sister’s Got a Problem” and “The Blues Don’t Lie” released in 1993 and 1994, respectively. He played Farm Aid in 1993 to a capacity crowd of 30,000. Shawn has toured globally with some great bands including the Tanita Gaines Revue, Peter Frampton, Robin Trower, Jonny Winter, Boston, Noah Hunt from the Kenny Wayne Sheppard Band, Lonnie Brooks, Molly Hatchet, Skid Row, Vince Neil, McGuffy Lane, Loverboy, Pat Travers, Cinderella and many more. Shawn is a proud endorser of Aquarian drum heads and sticks / Dream cymbals and gongs.

James “JT” Thigpen is an accomplished bassist located in the Cincinnati Ohio area. He started becoming enamored with music and particular the bass at the age of 13 via several family members who were all professional musicians. Steeped in Gospel, Jazz, Soul, R&B and Funk, there’s no question why JT’s love for James Brown, The Crusaders, The Hawkins Family, EWF, and Stevie Wonder to name a few, were huge influences particularly via his grandfather and cousin. Some of the most notable projects that he’s been involved in has been working with the opening act for ‘The Commodores’ during the ‘Night Shift’ tour days and playing the part of ‘Paul Chambers’ alongside Don Cheadle (Miles Davis) in the movie “Miles Ahead”.
