The South Hall ballroom was an essential venue for music legends, including Edward “Duke” Ellington, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and Sarah Vaughan. The North Hall, once the city’s sports arena, hosted games of the Black Fives basketball league and boxing matches with “Cincinnati Cobra,” Ezzard Charles.
