Job Description

Provide leadership comprehensively to programs and respective Directors. Partner closely with key stakeholders across the organization. A professional within the health care sector focused on the care of individuals; families; and communities so they may attain; maintain; or recover optimal health and quality of life.

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Management

  • Responsible for the development of strategic and operational tactics to promote patient and employee outcomes for areas of responsibility.
  • Partner with respective Divisional & System leaders to think, plan, and translate strategic plans into action. Develop the necessary and innovative analytical techniques and resources to enable successful growth.
  • Proactively work to bring the ‘outside in’ to ensure relevance and continued innovation leadership for CCHMC.
  • Identify and support community outreach and marketing initiatives that may enhance the development of new business opportunities.
  • Develop care and services to attract children outside of our region.
  • Participate in efforts to refine technology to support patient care.
  • May encourage and support research in associated areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrates consistent integration of the Interprofessional Practice Model (IPM) in all aspects of practice.
  • Participate in opportunities to create academic partnerships to ensure a qualified workforce for the future.
  • Plan, develop, and enable plans that embody diversity and inclusion.

Performance Outcomes

  • Oversee translation of institutional strategic plan into yearly priorities.
  • Develop associated reporting mechanisms to track and ensure the progress of plans.
  • Track and report to Senior Management on a routine basis the organization’s progress to achieve the goals of the strategic plan.
  • Proactively evaluate progress to targeted outcomes and adjust for unanticipated factors that may influence the ability to achieve targets.
  • Keep key leadership, administrative staff, and other stakeholders fully informed of projected and actual developments in a timely manner.
  • Create and enable cultures to promote patient safety.
  • Meet annual safety goals as defined by the organization.
  • Participate and support improvement efforts of Strategy & Growth to improve overall communication, intake, integration, and prioritization.
  • Assure oversight, enable success, and assure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

Operations

  • Responsible for the development of strategy and tactics related to the institutional strategic plan.
  • Coordinate with all appropriate divisions and departments (both clinical and non).
  • Lead and assist in strategic and operational meetings, including agenda and materials preparation, facilitation of discussion, maintaining topic flow for completion of agenda, and eliciting definitive action plans.
  • Be a conduit for communication and making connections to other institutional initiatives related to growth.
  • Effectively demonstrate communication skills related to conveying relevant information.
  • Develop and maintain efficient internal communication processes to support the activities of the department/program.

Professional Development

  • As a leader in the field, represent the organization at major external and internal meetings, conferences, and seminars and enhance the awareness of CCHMC’s position as a national leader in the field of pediatric health care planning.
  • As an operational and clinical expert, model this knowledge in daily work and teach/coach others for their development.
  • Develop knowledge and professional skills through cross-training, literature, and attendance at department meetings.
  • Participate in improving organizational performance by recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, collecting data, and providing input to department discussions.
  • Coach and mentor personnel to enhance professional knowledge.
  • Make job requirements and goals for each position clear to employees and ensure sufficient training to achieve the desired level of competency.
  • Holds self and others accountable for mutual professional expectations and outcomes.
  • Participate in organizational succession planning and assure active continuity plans for key areas of responsibility.

Financial Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and make fiscally responsible recommendations regarding resource needs for the department, including finances, materials, human resources, capital, and space.
  • Prepare, coordinate, evaluate, and manage the area’s annual fiscal operating and capital equipment budgets.
  • Assure financial accountability for annual operating and capital expenditures and budgets.
  • Meet yearly goals for contribution margin, percent variance from budget, and overtime rate.
  • Monitor outcomes and the costs of services in order to evaluate, modify, continue, or discontinue programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Seven or more years of work experience in Nursing.
  • Ohio license of the relevant clinical discipline.
  • Supervisory experience in a hospital is preferred.
