Job Description

The Village of Lincoln Heights is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Part-Time Custodian to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of municipal buildings and facilities. This position plays a vital role in ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, meeting rooms, hallways, and common areas
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors
Empty trash and recycling receptacles
Dust and wipe down surfaces, furniture, and fixtures
Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces
Restock restroom and janitorial supplies
Perform minor maintenance tasks as assigned
Report maintenance or safety issues to the supervisor
Assist with room setup and breakdown for meetings or events
Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies in proper working order
Follow all safety procedures and OSHA guidelines

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred
Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods
Reliable transportation and punctual attendance is required

Work Schedule

Approximately 30 hours per week
Monday through Friday (8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.)

About the Village of Lincoln Heights

Located in the Mill Creek Valley, Lincoln Heights became the first African American self-governing community north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Development began in 1923 after the Haley-Livingston Land Company sold land to Black families. Early residents faced limited public services, including inadequate water, sewer, police, fire protection, and street maintenance. Community leaders pursued incorporation in 1939, achieving village status in 1946 to improve local services and governance.

Today, Lincoln Heights remains rooted in generations of family pride, resilience, and community leadership. The village produced notable figures including Nikki Giovanni, Carl Westmoreland, Mae Faggs, and Leslie Edwards. Current priorities include infrastructure improvements, education, economic opportunity, public safety, parks, and long-term community prosperity.
