Job Description

A typical day in the life of an Early Intervention Developmental Specialist includes providing services to parents of infants and toddlers with disabilities or developmental delays. You will develop Individualized Family Service Plans for each child and will deliver evidence-based, caregiver-coaching services in natural environments such as the family’s home or the child’s day care. You will work with a team of other Early Intervention professionals who will coach and support you in your work with each family.

You will conduct ongoing assessments for each child and family, assisting with developmental evaluations for eligibility when needed. Regular participation is expected in weekly team meetings, monthly supervision sessions, and quarterly department meetings. Your role requires maintaining timely and accurate documentation, adhering to state and agency deadlines, and conducting ongoing file reviews. Collaboration with HCDDS staff and partner agencies will be essential to ensure seamless support for families in the program.

To support your work, you will receive an agency-provided phone and laptop, along with reimbursement for travel related to home visits. This position is on our southwest team, meaning you will support families residing in southwest Hamilton County.

Job Duties (Summary):

  • Performs multi-disciplinary evaluations and assessments using formal/informal tools to establish the child/family’s eligibility and need for ongoing services.
  • Develops Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) outcomes based on family priorities as part of a trans-disciplinary team; works cooperatively with other staff, Service & Support
  • Administrator, parents, caseworkers, medical personnel, therapists, etc. to achieve child and family outcomes as identified by the IFSP.
  • Implements evidence-based early intervention services through a primary service provider approach; utilizes a coaching interaction style with other staff, parents, and caregivers.
  • Provides services within natural environments such as homes and daycare centers; travels to and gains access to locations in the community to implement plans based on an individual’s needs in a safe, efficient, and effective manner in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Communicates family’s priorities, needs, and interests; provides coaching support to team members during weekly team meetings and on joint visits.
  • Develops and maintains individual records and reports.
  • Participates in continuing education opportunities within the field of early intervention to ensure current, relevant, evidence-based service delivery; maintains required licenses and/or certificates.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, early childhood, social work, or related field
  • Ability to travel within Hamilton County as needed
  • Must be able to pass criminal background checks and various abuser registry checks
  • This position utilizes frequent community travel and in-home service delivery. Employees are expected to travel within the county to meet with families and attend in-office meetings as needed.
