Human Resources Specialist

Job Description

The Human Resources Specialist will develop, coordinate, and execute effective talent acquisition duties for recruitment and onboarding. Assist with benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, and supplemental insurance programs. Act as the liaison with the FMLA third-party administrator. Assist with diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives. All while providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.


Job Responsibilities

  • Managed applicant tracking system: posted positions, screened applicants, declined candidates, processed new hires, and conducted background and driver checks. Also, reconcile monthly billing statements for applicant software and background checks.
  • Schedule and attend job/career fairs and other Great Park events. Assist with onsite hiring events.
  • Partner with Hiring Managers to understand hiring needs, identify requirements, and provide ongoing updates.
  • Track candidate status in HRIS and send follow-up letters at the end of the recruiting process.
  • Assist with new hires: conduct onboarding meetings, verify I-9 documentation, and complete new hire paperwork.
  • Ensure positive recruiting experiences for candidates and hiring managers through best practices.
  • Support inclusion efforts, coordinating recruitment to cultivate diverse talent avenues.
  • Recommend and implement internal hiring policies with the Director of Talent Management to ensure legal and consistent practices.
  • Assist in training programs for hiring managers to improve recruiting efficiency.
  • Respond to recruitment and hiring inquiries from employees and applicants.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations for sourcing applicants.
  • Administer benefits program and respond to inquiries promptly and accurately.
  • Act as liaison with FMLA third-party administrator and conduct FMLA audits.
  • Assist with the annual Wellness Fair and promote employee participation.
  • Provide backup for COBRA process and insurance billing reconciliation.
  • Maintain confidential employee employment and benefits files and updated Employee Services forms.
  • Stay updated on human resource management requirements and practices.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Great Parks’ policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Exhibit regular attendance and work outside normal hours as required.
  • Perform other assigned duties.



  • An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, communications, or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of talent acquisition/recruiting and benefits experience required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with HR systems (HRIS and applicant tracking systems) preferred
  • Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.


Additional Requirements

  • State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License that meets GPHC’s current carrier guidelines.
  • SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
