Seasonal Maintenance Worker
Job Description
Perform a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks within the public works department to support seasonal operations. This temporary role runs from May through September and requires a full 40‑hour workweek. Candidates should be prepared for hands‑on, outdoor work that contributes to the upkeep and appearance of community spaces.
Essential Functions
- Operate the residential chipper program, ensuring safe handling of materials and proper disposal of brush and debris.
- Maintain outdoor rights‑of‑way, including clearing overgrowth, managing vegetation, and keeping pathways accessible.
- Perform routine litter pickup to keep public areas clean, safe, and visually appealing.
- Carry out general landscaping tasks, such as planting seasonal flowers, watering vegetation, and maintaining garden beds.
- Prune trees and shrubs to promote healthy growth and maintain clear sightlines in public spaces.
- Mow lawns and maintain grassy areas, using appropriate equipment to ensure neat and consistent appearance.
- Operate light‑duty equipment required for daily maintenance tasks, following all safety procedures.
- Complete other general labor duties as assigned, supporting overall public works operations as needed.
