Youth Mentor

Job Description

The Youth Mentor for the Game Changers Program with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati supports students through structured individual and small-group mentoring in school settings. The role focuses on building consistent, trusting relationships while helping youth develop confidence, communication skills, emotional awareness, and positive decision-making.

Mentors collaborate with school staff and families, guide students in setting and achieving goals, track progress through program tools, and create inclusive spaces where students feel supported and valued. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, dependability, and a commitment to youth development and community impact.

Responsibilities

Build supportive, consistent relationships with students through individual and small-group mentoring sessions
Facilitate structured sessions in partnership with school staff and administrators
Support youth in developing confidence, communication skills, emotional awareness, and positive decision-making
Help students set goals, stay motivated, and celebrate growth and achievements
Create welcoming and inclusive spaces where students feel heard, valued, and respected
Collaborate with school staff and families to provide meaningful support for students
Track student engagement and progress using program tools and documentation systems
Adapt your coaching and mentoring approach to meet the unique strengths and needs of each student
Serve as a positive representative of Big Brothers Big Sisters within schools and the community
Evaluation of Performance
Performance will be evaluated based on meeting the requirements of this job description; achieving performance metrics and quality indicators established for the position; working effectively in a team environment; and demonstrating the values of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati.

Skilled at building authentic relationships with young people from diverse background

Committed to creating positive and inclusive experiences for all students

Requirements

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Ability to build trust and connect with youth from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to pass required background screenings, including Criminal History and National Sex Offender Registry checks
Valid driver’s license and state-required automobile insurance
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
Experience mentoring, coaching, teaching, supporting, or working with youth
Experience facilitating groups or relationship-centered programming
Bilingual or multilingual communication skills
Knowledge of or connection to the communities we serve
