Youth Services Specialist
Job Description
As a Summer Youth Services Specialist with Ohio Valley Goodwill, you’ll help high school students with developmental disabilities build vocational skills and workplace behaviors through the Youth Employment Skills (YES!) program. Ohio Valley Goodwill is looking for creative, motivated, and enthusiastic individuals to join the team!
Two-Level Program
Orientation and training will be the week of June 2.
Level 1 (June 8 – 26)- three weeks, three days a week for 4 hours per day, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. This level is for more students who need more support and usually have never had any employment experience.
Level 2 (July 6 – August 7) – five weeks, four days a week, for five hours per day, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. These students may have some work study and/or employment experience.
Responsibilities
- Effectively and professionally communicate with individuals, family members, employers, and Goodwill staff.
- Implement techniques and strategies to achieve skill development, competitive pace, and quality standards.
- Provide demonstration of task(s) and accurately document assessments, strategies, and recommendations.
- Identify individual strengths and address barriers to employment, such as soft skills, hygiene, etc.
- Assist with the completion of job tasks as needed
- Teaching the importance of safety, health, and wellness in the workplace.
Requirments
- Must be 21 years of age with two years of driving experience
- High school diploma or GED (prefer 2 or 4 year degree in a related field)
- Documented experience working and/or volunteering with individuals with disabilities or a similar field preferred; education or ongoing study in a related field can be considered as experience
- Proficient in computer software such as Microsoft Excel and Word
- Must be able to pass criminal, state, and federal background checks as well as BMV checks
- Strong decision-making, time management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to stand for 6 hours, with the ability to move about
