Director of Fundraising & Marketing, Special Olympics Hamilton County


Special Olympics Hamilton County is looking for a full-time fundraiser and marketer to join our team in an exciting time of organizational growth and development. The position reports to the Executive Committee of the Advisory Board and will be a member of the Senior Management Team sharing collective responsibility to deliver the organization’s strategy and mission. The Executive Committee will provide the necessary vision, leadership, marketing and fundraising skills which will allow the organization to achieve its fundraising targets and growth objectives.

Main Responsibilities

Strategy and planning

  • Lead the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies to achieve income targets across the range of revenue streams
  • In cooperation with the Senior Management Team, lead the development of any long-term strategy to achieve agreed long term organizational goals
  • Identify new potential income streams and produce strategies to access these funds


  • Lead all fundraising efforts (and volunteers) to deliver against fundraising goals
  • Lead the individual giving development plan which includes recruitment and development of new donors
  • Develop new funding streams and maintain effective relationships and retention of current donors
  • Recruit, manage and coordinate volunteers/athletes to successfully deliver a number of key fundraising events throughout the year
  • Work with the Financial Committee to prepare and submit annual budget and fundraising goals/expectations
  • Incorporate grant strategies into the fundraising plan.


  • Build and manage the organization’s brand and all aspects of marketing communications in order to raise awareness of the organization
  • Lead all marketing and promotional efforts to drive increased participation in annual fundraising events
  • Manage newsletter and digital communications
  • Partner with the Marketing Committee to coordinate and/or participate in event-specific media, publicity, and public relations efforts
  • Lead the volunteer Young Professionals Committee

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrated success in a minimum of three year’s special event fundraising experience
  • Demonstrable track record of Strategic Fundraising
  • Experience of utilizing the strength of an organization brand for charity/business development
  • Proven track record of meeting challenging income targets
  • A proven track record in securing funds from statutory sources, foundations, trusts and major donors
  • Proven ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder, client and donor relationships
  • Proven track record in fundraising that has directly resulted in increased income for an organization
  • Experience in development of an individual donor program (including donor marketing)

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously, take initiative and make decisions.
  • Knowledge of the fundraising environment and of a range techniques and disciplines which will support the cost-effective generation of income
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Track record of bringing innovative creative thinking and fresh ideas to an organization
  • Exceptionally convincing and persuasive written and oral skills
  • Strong event/project management skills
  • Experience with database management
  • Strong understanding of social networking (i.e. website, Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In etc.)
  • Commitment to SOHC’s core values and strategic direction

  • Undergraduate Degree in Marketing, Communications or a related field.
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development relevant to the role purpose and level
