Overview

The Senior Branch Manager is responsible for the oversight of branch operations and staff; daily leadership; and interpreting the Library’s policies and procedures. This position leads or oversees all branch initiatives and takes a lead in system wide initiatives. This position is also responsible building community partnerships; determining staffing; and the training and development of all staff.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the personnel management process for branch staff including, but not limited to: hiring; supervision; on-the-job training; employee relations, corrective action; evaluation of staff performance; identification of staff development needs; and coaching.
• Leads team members in providing the highest quality service to all internal and external customers, which includes building group morale, cohesiveness and processes and achieving team goals and ensuring a clear understanding of the linkage of each staff member’s work to the purpose and vision of the Library.
• Plans workflow for team, including scheduling and staffing for effective in-person public service.
• Leads and oversees branch services including: planning and conducting engaging programs; maintaining branch collection; branch programming budget and outreach to community partners.
• Monitors physical location and initiates maintenance and repairs as necessary.
• Creates and maintains partnerships with community partners.
• Performs and directs the work of reference and readers’ advisory in person, by telephone, and by e-mail, using materials in a variety of formats.
• Interprets the Library’s policies and procedures to the public in a customer-friendly manner.
• Uses the Library’s automated system to circulate materials to customers, including checking materials in and out, processing holds, registering customers, and collecting fees.

Qualifications

•Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school.
•Up to 3-5 years of progressively responsible and relevant experience.
• Understands and supports the Library’s mission, vision, culture, and structure, and demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the Library’s policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the library management and services with the ability to apply such knowledge to work performed.
• Active role and leader in systemwide initiatives and projects.
• Demonstrates ability to work on multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously, to meet tight deadlines within budgetary constraints, and to handle multiple projects simultaneously and autonomously
• Demonstrates professionalism in all settings, including being a team player; arriving to work reliably, regularly, and on time; and behavior that is consistent with building a strong organizational culture, while performing work duties.
• Interacts with members of diverse ethnic and socio-economic communities, children, staff and management in a respectful and professional manner that reflects the Library’s values.

• Demonstrates strong technology skills with the ability and willingness to learn new skills quickly.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the Library’s insurance provider.
