Kilimanjaro African Heritage is a Black-owned African retail store that features various types of art, clothing, jewelry, and music located in Clifton on Ludlow near Avondale and Camp Washington. Owned by Mbindyo (TITUS) Nzioki, this store specializes in hand-made, one of a kind treasure.
Kilimanjaro African Heritage has been in operation here since 1986. They are devoted exclusively to collecting and selling African Art and other products. Along with Art from different regions of the continent of Africa, they also carry a large selection of African clothing for the entire family, jewelry, fabric, books, music and musical instruments.
Mbindyo (TITUS) Nzioki, the owner of the store is a wood carver who was born and raised in a small wood carving village of Wamunyu in eastern Kenya. His father Nzioki Mutweia and grandfather Mutweia Itaa were woodcarvers. Titus spent his early years working with his father at a family gallery in Nairobi and later worked in various galleries in The Netherlands and Switzerland before coming to the US. Titus travels to Africa every year to buy and collect new products for the store.
The mission of Kilimanjaro is to share their heritage with the rest of the world. They provide a reasonable outlet for the artists to market their products without the common exploitation that is associated with sweatshops.
Kilimanjaro African Heritage features many of their colorful and authentic clothing pieces on their Facebook where they are modeled by many beautiful women. Their Facebook is also sure to give outfit inspiration, as they repost many colorful garments from across the globe. The store itself is very colorful and inviting. It is decked floor to ceiling with beautiful treasure, so youâre sure to notice something different with each new visit.
Though they are associated with very traditional African treasures, Kilimanjaro African Heritage keeps up with the times by also creating products associated with the Black Lives Matter Movement and beautiful face masks from Ghana to protect people from the spread of virus.
