POTI9N is a Black-owned adult beverage company, a market that is still disproportionate in ethnic representation. The POTI9N brand was established in 2017 by two Cincinnati natives, RJ and AD, from completely different backgrounds, yet united by culture, community, and cause.
The flagship ‘Pink Lemonade’ flavor was crafted to remedy the family gathering experience as the matriarch of AD’s family battled the woes of lung cancer. POTI9N brought the family together, it injected light into what seemed like a dark situation. It helped bring laughter and love so that the focus wasn’t on the illness but instead on creating beautiful moments during what was otherwise a traumatic time. While ADâs mom is currently a lung cancer survivor, the experiences that POTI9N helped to create in a private moment led to a much larger vision.
RJ, having a business background assisted AD in tweaking the original formula creating the product that is bottled today. Both owners found a black community in the spirit industry where there is limited black representation. They also saw this as an opportunity to pour back into the causes that disproportionately impact the black community.
With each purchase of their ‘Pink Lemonade’ flavored POTI9N, a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to Breast Cancer Research and Family Support. However, it doesn’t stop there; with their ‘Fruit Punch’ flavor, a percentage will be donated to AIDS Research, with their ‘Strawberry’ flavor, a percentage will be donated to Heart Disease Research, with their ‘Black Cherry’ flavor, a percentage will be donated to organizations such as Black Lives Matter and the NAACP to support legislation for human rights and black equality. This is a spirit with a purpose.
POTI9N is a self-funded boutique spirit brand that two Cincinnati Natives built from the ground up. Black-owned, established to unite the community and to bring about positive change, the POTI9N brand is a well-oiled machine that will pour back into the black community through its mission and vision for years to come.
