Marsalis Premiere & Bruch’s Violin Concerto

Wynton Marsalis’ Liberty promises a vivid musical portrait of America at 250, told in the singular voice of a composer who uses the language of jazz to illuminate the nation’s stories. A true documentarian of American history through sound, Marsalis brings a perspective that is both celebratory and clear-eyed, weaving narrative and rhythm into a distinctly American tapestry. Nicola Benedetti then gifts us a performance of Bruch’s beloved Violin Concerto, which grips the listener from its very first phrase and gathers momentum until the entire orchestra seems to glow from within. Urgent and emotional, the concerto lays its heart bare on the way to a fiery, exhilarating finish.
Marsalis & Mussorgsky Reimagined
Saturday, October 3, 7:30 p.m.
Nicola Benedetti, Cristian Măcelaru, and the CSO ignite Wynton Marsalis’ Grammy Award-winning Violin Concerto, moving seamlessly from a blues-infused dream and Mardi Gras celebration to a raucous barnyard throwdown. Reimagined by Marsalis and Măcelaru for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition gets a thrilling makeover, where each tableau pops with new color, swagger, and energy.

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra is an American orchestra based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Its primary concert venue is Music Hall. In addition to its symphony concerts, the orchestra gives pops concerts as the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. The Cincinnati Symphony is the resident orchestra for the Cincinnati May Festival, the Cincinnati Opera, and the Cincinnati Ballet.

Near Music Hall, there is a 450-space underground garage, surface lots, and on-street parking. Use the Cincy EZ Park App to pay for parking as appropriate. Take the Cincinnati METRO to the venue.
Accessibility
The accessibility entrance is located on the southeast side of the building on Elm Street. Please ask a Music Hall usher or staff member for additional assistance or directions.
Prohibited Items
Music Hall restricts bag sizes to 12″ x 12″ for your safety. A staff member can make an exception for individuals with medical necessity. All bags and jackets are subject to inspection at the entrance.
