The Ohio River played a unique and integral role in our nation’s journey to freedom. Be guided along the Southern Ohio River border in discovery of the many remarkable stories of courage across the Underground Railroad. Thousands of brave and resourceful Freedom Seekers escaped enslavement and travelled northward toward self-determination and were helped by abolitionists and conductors along the perilous journey
From well preserved sites, historical societies and museums, to lesser-known locations and key individuals that are credited with contributing to the movement, the Freedom Journey App honors the interconnectedness of these spaces with the intrepid spirits, who with fortitude and resolve, followed the North Star toward the Ohio River and beyond in search of refuge and liberty.
