Court Security Officer

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides security and safety anywhere assigned within the Juvenile Court.
  • Provides customer service support and direct care monitoring of youth in various court departments and buildings on a temporary, as-needed, and rotation basis.
  • Appropriately responds to resistance from individuals not following court orders or at risk of harming others or themselves.
  • Transports juveniles and adult prisoners to and from Juvenile courtrooms at 800 Broadway.
  • Transports juveniles between 800 Broadway, 2020 Auburn Avenue, and 1000 Main Street.
  • Provides supervision to prisoners within the court holding facilities.
  • Completes all daily logs, incident reports, and other required daily paperwork.
  • Assists with Contempt docket at 800 Broadway and being alert for potential problems.
  • Assists Juvenile Probation Officers with arrests. Participates in extradition and picks up juvenile detainees from locations in and out of state.
  • Works cooperatively with all Law Enforcement Agencies.
  • Delivers money to the bank.
  • Serves Fourth with Subpoenas, Emergency Orders, and Warrants as necessary.
  • All other duties as required, including but not limited to providing customer service support and direct care monitoring of youth in various court departments and buildings on a temporary, as-needed, and rotation basis.

 

Qualifications

Minimum

  • A high school diploma or GED and one year of related work experience are required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess and maintain auto liability insurance.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Must obtain OPOTA Basic Bailiff certification and complete all required OPOTA courses upon hire.
  • Must pass the background screening process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and three years of related work experience are preferred.
  • Possession of an OPOTA Certification.
  • Diversion, Equity, and Inclusion experience.

 

Working Conditions

  • Employees work indoors and are protected from weather conditions or contaminants, but not necessarily occasional temperature changes.
  • Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.
  • Exposure to individuals who may be unruly at times.

 

Skills

  • Complete all logs the Security Department maintains daily, including incident reports and other required paperwork.
  • Must possess computer/technical skills/abilities, which include: Must be able to do some typing on the computer.
  • Must possess written and oral communication skills/abilities, including practical written and verbal skills, to communicate effectively with all team members and the public.
