Job Description

The Senior Manager, Impact, will lead Project LIFT, a network of community partners focused on building long-term relationships with families and supporting them toward economic well-being through family-centered coaching and financial support.

In this senior manager position on the Community Impact team, you will be pivotal in supporting United Way’s mission to strengthen economic mobility and well-being in Greater Cincinnati. You will contribute to the development and execution of strategic initiatives aimed at addressing community conditions and fostering positive change.

As a leader of the Impact Networks unit, you will lead key initiatives that provide the infrastructure to enable collaborative efforts with key partners and stakeholders to implement new community solutions, strengthen capacity, reshape practices, inform policy change, and directly contribute to measurable change in the community.

Primarily, this role will lead Project LIFT, a network of community partners focused on building long-term relationships with families and supporting them toward economic well-being through family-centered coaching and financial support.

 

Job Responsibilities

Initiative Leadership and Project Management

  • Provide strategic leadership in implementing initiatives to strengthen the impact of United Way’s impact networks (with a primary focus on Project LIFT).
  • Contribute to United Way’s shared framework for network leadership, facilitation, community feedback, and evaluation by directly managing a network of partners.
  • Support applying relevant research and practices in network building and collaborative systems change within the projects managed.
  • Oversee efforts to manage project-level data and outcomes for projects to support continuous learning and improvement.
  • Report verbally and in writing regularly to internal teams, leadership, and external stakeholders (including funding partners and other investors).
  • Lead project management for critical projects and serve as an active partner/member on the United Way team to drive positive impact on the team.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, collaboration, and accountability within the organization.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Engage community partners and community members to gather input and regularly understand regional needs and assets.
  • Lead collaboration with leaders, practitioners, families, and community stakeholders within networks like Project LIFT to build and foster shared vision, practices, learning, and collaboration to support the family’s economic well-being.
  • Provide regular communication and technical assistance to community partners to support the goals of specific projects.
  • Identify and coordinate capacity-building opportunities for partners as necessary to strengthen the network and best position it to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Convene partners regularly at a leadership and practitioner level to share updates, identify critical learnings or challenges, build shared practices and tools, and evaluate the impact of the network.
  • Represent United Way on key external committees where the work aligns.

Management, Operations, and Internal Collaboration

  • Manage other team member(s) to ensure robust and timely implementation of all projects. Coach and develop staff as needed.
  • Provide support across the impact team to ensure rigorous project management, including documentation of projects and critical actions through charters, SOPs, and regular evaluation.
  • Collaborate closely with other leaders on the impact team to ensure collaboration, cross-training, and coordination.
  • Support the management of all financial budgets for projects and annual operations.
  • Work closely with area center directors and other internal staff to coordinate regional network activities and leverage internal expertise as needed (marketing, finance, IT, etc.).
  • Support grant writing, reporting, corporate engagement, and advocacy, as needed, to help build awareness, raise resources, and influence systems change.

Thought Leadership and Advocacy

  • Stay current on all relevant research and best practices in collective impact and social change networks. Serve as the content expert for network facilitation on United Way’s Impact team.
  • Engages regularly in professional development, learning, and capacity building to contribute to the overall subject matter expertise of the Community Impact team.
  • Support advocacy and community awareness efforts in close partnership with community partners and United Way’s Public Policy and Advocacy director.

 

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferable.
  • At least five to seven years of proven experience in program management or a related role.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and leadership skills required.
  • Excellent team management skills.
  • Exceptional strategic leadership, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and practices; preferred experience with project management systems such as Asana.

  • A strategic thinker with a track record of building complex solutions/ programs and bringing them to life through solid implementation efforts.
  • Deep experience collaborating with external partners, including building shared visions and implementing solutions through collaborative approaches.
  • Understanding systemic challenges and strong cultural responsiveness – including experience and comfort in working with diverse groups and stakeholders, especially across socio-economic, gender, and racial/ethnic identities.
  • Highly organized and effective in executing against multiple goals.
  • Ability to build relationships across the organization and in the community to support impact.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills; make decisions based on accurate and timely data-driven analysis.
  • Proven experience and ability to lead, direct, coach, and mentor teams in collaborative partnering to achieve goals.
  • Excellent writing, editing, verbal, analytical, and presentation skills.
  • High integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results.
