Summer Youth Program Staff

Job Description

Washington United Church of Christ in Camp Washington neighborhood seeks high school/college/young adults to staff our Summer Youth Program. Looking for young people who enjoy children, are flexible, want to lead activities that include recreation, arts/crafts, reading, and field trips, and are willing to do light cooking.

Kids come to the church Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon, for breakfast and lunch, with activities in between. Our goals are to provide meals they would get in school, a safe place to play and learn, and to help erase the summer learning gap.

Dates

  • Weeks of June 3, June 9, June 16, June 23
  • Off week of July 1
  • Weeks of July 7, July 14, July 21

Hours

  • Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Sunday evenings, for 3 hours, to help welcome volunteers helping with the week’s program.

 

Compensation

  • Pay is $12 an hour, and knowing you’re helping kids.

Staff & Training

  • Staff will work under the supervision of the director and with outside mission groups who stay at the church for a week to help with the program.
  • Training is the first week of June. We seek qualities of punctuality, leadership, the ability to supervise small groups of children, and willingness to prepare easy breakfasts and clean up at the end of each day.

Field Trips

  • Past trips have been to Smale Park, Washington Park, Cincinnati Zoo, and Avon Fields public golf course as a part of the award-winning Reaching Out to Kids program.

 

About the Organization

Washington United Church of Christ, 2950 Sidney Ave. in the Camp Washington neighborhood, operates many outreach programs in our low-income neighborhood. We serve weekday lunch, offer an after-school tutoring program, operate Camp Cupboard food pantry, and provide Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts, including new clothes.

Summer Youth Program has operated for many years, providing summer jobs, helping kids, and offering mission groups an opportunity to volunteer in the urban core.
