About Jessy J
Jessica Arellano, also known professionally as Jessy J, is an American saxophonist. She began playing music at age 4. After earning a scholarship from the University of Southern California, she obtained a degree in jazz studies and was named the “Most Outstanding Jazz Student.”
Jessy J performed on the twice Grammy-nominated album Elevation as a Henry Mancini Jazz Orchestra member. She has performed on the hit television competition shows American Idol, The Voice, and Dancing With the Stars. Jessy was carefully selected along with a handful of talented young jazz artists by Selmer Saxophones to be part of a team of Master educators at schools to help advance music programs.
Her first studio album in six years, BLUE, is stylistically different from her previous recordings, tapping into the vibrant soul and blues energies of the ’60s and ’70s. Driven by a fresh spark of creativity due to the isolation she felt during the lockdown, Jessy set out to create an album full of James Brownesque drums and tasty/bluesy Ray Charles organ licks showcasing some of her most passionate and robust tenor playing ever.
