Free Cincinnati Summer Camp Reading sessions will be held in Evanston, Lincoln Heights, Walnut Hills, and two locations downtown.
Cincinnati Summer Camp Reading helps children enjoy reading and improving their skills while having fun. People of faith administer this free, non-religious, secular educational program.
This program is for students who enjoy having fun at day camp, want to improve their reading skills, and have completed 2nd or 3rd grade by June 2018.
Each child receives 30 minutes of tutoring from a reading specialist every day. Campers participate in games, activities, and crafts during the rest of the morning.
Throughout the afternoon, camp dollars are awarded for good manners, effort, and achievement. At the end of each day, campers can buy something at the camp store or save for an item.

During camp, the students will take pre- and post-tests that measure oral reading fluency, comprehension, and risk for adverse outcomes.
After a study was conducted over multiple camps, 100% of Summer Camp Reading campers improved in word recognition and reading comprehension. This improvement is contrasted with a typical summer loss of two or more months of reading achievement.

Donations
Summer Camp Reading welcomes any support. There are many ways in which you can contribute to this enriching program. Volunteers are needed to help prepare snacks and lunch, read to a camper, or help with arts and crafts.
Monetary donations can also be made of any amount or to a specific need below:
- Healthy snacks – $50
- Books for campers – $80
- Sponsor a camper for a week – $100
- Sponsor a camper for six weeks – $500
