Summer Camp Lead Teacher

Job Description

Clifton Cultural Arts Center (CCAC) seeks multiple Lead Teachers for our 2024 Summer Camp program. Lead Teachers are responsible for daily camp lessons corresponding to the weekly camp theme and structure, organizing a camp art show after each camp week, and providing direction to camp Teaching Assistants.

Lead Teachers will work with rotating groups of up to 16 campers in Grades K – 6 and a weeklong group of up to 16 campers ages 3-5 or 6-8. This position will regularly interact with CCAC staff, Summer Camp Teaching Assistants, camper parents, and campers ages 3 – 12.

This is a temporary position with an hourly rate of $28. Camps run in week-long increments from June 3 – 18 and July 8 – August 9, 2024 (no camp the week of July 1 – 5 or June 19). Applicants may apply for one or multiple camp weeks. Lead Teachers will be scheduled for up to nine weeks of camp within those dates. Lead Teachers are required to attend paid training before the start of the summer camp season.

 

Camp Structures

Multi-Teacher Structure (Weeks 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8)

  • Campers will be divided into groups by grade (Kindergarten-Grade 2, Grades 3 – 4, and Grades 5 – 6) and rotate between three different Lead Teachers throughout the day.
  • Each Lead teacher will see each group for 1.5 hours of instruction daily.
  • Lead Teachers will work collaboratively to ensure unique projects and skills are taught daily throughout the camp.

Single-Teacher Structure (Weeks 2, 5, and 9)

  • Lead Teachers will consistently work with the same group of campers ages 3-5 or 6-8 throughout the week.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Create lesson plans and implement daily camp lessons for children Grades K – 6 and Ages 3-5 and 6-8.
  • Provide the Program Manager with camp supply list(s).
  • Prepare camp classroom and daily supplies.
  • Manage Teaching Assistants.

 

Qualifications

Successful candidates are highly reliable, detail-oriented, creative, and upbeat. The ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor’s degree in art, art education, or a related field OR equivalent, and relevant work experience.
  • Two years of experience teaching in a classroom setting is preferred.
  • Ability to interact with and teach children of diverse backgrounds, personalities, and skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Reliable form of transportation.

 

Work Schedule

  • 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. weekdays.
  • Lead Teachers must be ready to teach at 9:00 a.m. each weekday.

 

Camp Dates & Themes

June 3 – 5 and July 15 – 19

Art Adventures for Grades K – 6 (Multi-Teacher, Weeks 1 and 6): Take a guided adventure through a creative world where you’ll create extraordinary art with our summer Art Adventures camp. Your young artist will use their creativity to venture through exotic lands and bravely paint, draw, and sculpt what they find there. Our experienced instructors will lead them on a journey filled with colors, laughter, and discovery as they bring their imaginations to life.

June 10 – 14 and July 8 – 12

My First Summer Camp for Ages 3 – 5 (Single Teacher, Weeks 2 and 5): Is your preschooler ready for their first summer camp experience? This week, dedicated to the Pre-K crowd, will give a welcoming and gentle intro to camp life! Each day will have a theme focusing on the basics of the summer camp experience, with outdoor play and quiet time breaks throughout the day. Your camper will tie dye, paint, craft, snack, and socialize – all at a preschooler’s pace.

June 17 – 21 (NO June 19) and July 22 – 26

Fashion Camp for Grades K – 6 (Multi-Teacher, Weeks 3 and 7): Does your child have a passion for fashion? Your camper will use traditional and non-traditional techniques to transform and manipulate fabric, paper, copper, wire, tie-dye, and more in new and creative ways to showcase their unique flair.

June 24 – 28 and July 29 – August 2

Fantasy Art Camp for Grades K – 6 (Multi-Teacher, Weeks 4 and 8): Enter a world of dragons, fairies, and more when you craft fantastical illustrations and 3D sculptures. Our instructors will guide your camper to draw, sculpt, and create incredible creatures and lands that jump out of their imaginations. On the last day of the week, they’ll have the chance to showcase their spectacular creations in a fantasy art show.

August 5 – 9

Camp Topic TBD for Ages 6 – 8 (Single Teacher, Week 9): Lead Teachers will propose a week-long camp theme based on artistic medium or subject (i.e., printmaking, sculpture, abstract art, etc.) and then develop a curriculum based on this theme.
