African American Therapists and Mental Health Professionals in Cincinnati
African Americans needing counseling or therapy often seek African American social workers and mental health professionals. Black-owned mental health providers employ these clinicians, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, and therapists.

Insurance and Mental Health
Some insurances require a referral from a primary care doctor to schedule a mental health session. Others may require referrals for psychiatric, psychosocial, or bipolar disorders.
When engaging with a therapist, not in your insurance’s network, ask about a superbill that allows patients to be reimbursed for services. Superbills can relieve some of the panic and distress you have about being unable to afford critical mental health care.
A therapy session without insurance can range from $65 to over $250. The amount owed depends on several factors, including the type of treatment and where you receive therapy. Uninsured Cincinnatians may be eligible for free or low-cost mental health services.
